Perennializing Amaranth Mix

$3.95

Amaranthus cruentus

Days to Maturity: 50 (flower), 100 (seed)

A mixture of amaranths used to re-vegetate barren areas of land, grow as animal forage or replace noxious weeds (e.g. out-compete goatheads!). Regionally-adapted to Colorado/Four Corners. Does not need to be watered after seeds have sprouted and rooted. Plant directly in ground anytime after last spring frost through mid-summer. Grows quickly and returns year after year. Amaranth is native to the Americas and has been cultivated as an edible grain and green for thousands of years.

Planting Instructions: Plant directly in ground after last frost. Keep moist until germinated. Thin to 2 feet apart. Highly drought tolerant. In many warmer climates, amaranth will return year after year so plant where you don't mind it returning!

Seed Saving Instructions: When amaranth seed is mature it will easily fall into a bucket when stems are shaken. Clip entire seedhead into bucket and stomp to dislodge seed, or shake while still on plant. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.

Approx 500 Amaranth seeds per packet
