This rare kale goes to seed in its first year-- great for seed savers & seed sharers! Plant in spring and again in early fall for a late fall harvest to enjoy tender, fresh leaves. Leaves are smooth, tender and mild! Sautéing or cooking the kale brings out its sweetness. This variety was given by Irene Kemper to Seed Savers Exchange, whose German great grandparents brought the seeds to the US when they emigrated. Planting Instructions: Plant Smooth German Kale seeds in early spring to late summer, 1/4-1/2" deep, 6" apart. Keep moist until germinated.
Seed Saving Instructions: Collect Smooth German Kale seed when seed pods are dry and easily crumble in your hand. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.
