Brassica oleracea
Days to Maturity: 70
A longstanding Italian heirloom brought to the US in 1890, Di Cicco Broccoli keeps producing small to medium-sized side shoots all season long, after harvesting the main head! You can harvest them as small broccoli shoots or let them flower for broccoli raab. Harvest main head at around 3" across for maximum side shoot production. Freezes well. Sweet, delicious taste.
Di Cicco Broccoli seeds are also wonderful as sprouts.
Planting Instructions: Start Di Cicco Broccoli seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before transplanting; or direct seed in spring 1/4" deep. Thin to 18" apart. Does best in heavier soils.
Seed Saving Instructions: Allow stalks to flower and go to seed. Collect seed when pods are fully dry and seed easily crumbles out.
