Papaver somniferum
Days to Maturity: 50
We love poppies for their drought tolerance and pollinator attraction. These giant white beauties grow up to 4 feet tall! Their delicate white petals with lavender interior are a lovely addition to any garden. It's so fun to harvest your own poppy seeds from their rattle-like seedheads.
Original seed sourced from Sherwood Seeds.
Planting Instructions: Start Giant White Poppy seed indoors 5-8 weeks before last frost and transplant outdoors in spring up to a month before last frost; or sow poppy seeds directly in the ground outside in fall or early spring. Sprinkle onto bare soil and moisten to germinate (no need to cold stratify these poppy seeds). Make sure poppy seeds are exposed to light to germinate. Thin to 6-12" apart.
Seed Saving Instructions: Allow Giant White Poppy plants to dry and wait until seed head is brown and crispy. Snap seed heads into bucket, and break open to dislodge seeds. Store in a cool, dark and dry place.
