Ponca Butternut Squash

$5.95

Cucurbita moschata

Days to Maturity: 90

Ponca Butternuts are your "personal-sized," mini butternut squash! Being smaller, they mature earlier than the longer-season butternuts, so they can be grown at higher elevations and more variable climates. Ponca comes with the same buttery, rich flavor you expect from a butternut, packed with nutrients.

Each plant yields 4-7 squashes on sprawling vines. Their thick necks and smaller seed cavity yields a lot of usable flesh.

An heirloom named after the Ponca Great Plains tribe. This variety was developed in 1976 by Dermot P. Coyne at University of Nebraska, as a cross between "New Hamsphire Butternut" and "Butternut 23".

Planting Instructions: Sow outdoors after all frost has passed and soil has warmed. Plant 2-3" deep in mounds of well-draining soil. Mounds should be at least 4 feet apart.

Seed Saving Instructions: Select as many of your tastiest, fully mature fruits as possible for seed saving. Cut open squash and lay seeds out to dry on a screen or cloth. You may rinse them in a strainer if needed. Store Ponca Butternut seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.

Limited Stock: Approx 20 Ponca Butternut Squash seeds per packet
