Solanum lycopersicum
Days to Maturity: 75 from transplant
These rare tomatoes are the MOST delicious cherry tomato we've ever tasted!! The flavor is unique: sweet, tangy and rich all at once. Our taste buds were dancing! About 1" diameter, their size is similar to their Black Cherry cousins. Their taste is similar also but BETTER (we think!). These sprawling plants enjoy a trellis to climb and full sun.
Planting Instructions: Start Mountain Black Tomato seeds indoors under grow lights or in a greenhouse 6-10 weeks before last frost. Transplant 2+ weeks after last frost when soil has warmed a bit. Space plants at least 4 feet apart. Support growth with tomato cages, a trellis or wire. Water regularly but avoid overwatering (soil should be moist but not wet).
Seed Saving Instructions: When fully ripe, pick your tastiest fruits from the most vigorous plants. Cut open and squeeze Mountain Black Tomato seeds and juice into a jar. Secure a cloth over the jar so air can enter. Ferment the juice and seeds in the jar for 2-3 days. Then strain and rinse the seeds. Dry on a screen or cloth. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.
