Painted Mountain Corn (Colorado-Adapted)

$3.95

Zea Mays

Painted Mountain Corn is a grinding flour (masa) corn bred in Montana for short season growing. High genetic resilience and early production makes this corn a hardy mainstay. We love Painted Mountain for its beautiful rainbow of red, blue, yellow and orange hues. Matures in 75-90 days. This specific corn seed is a Colorado-adapted landrace. It will grow well anywhere in Colorado including higher elevation mountain gardens.

Painted Mountain Corn was bred by Dave Christensen, starting by crossing almost 70 native flour corns. It has been selected for 50 years for short-season, hardy genetics. We deeply appreciate this Open Pollinated masterpiece!

Grown by Groundwork in Paonia, CO.

Planting Instructions: Plant Painted Mountain Corn seeds 6" deep in late April-mid May in clumps of 5 seeds per hole, spaced 3-5 feet apart. No thinning is necessary.

Seed Saving Instructions: Pick corn cobs when fingernail does not dent kernels, as leaves are browning. Shuck cobs (remove leaves) and allow kernels to dry fully on the cob. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.
