Painted Hills Sweet Corn

$6.00

Zea Mays

Days to Maturity: 75-80

Painted Hills Corn is a stabilized cross of Painted Mountain Flour Corn and Luther Hill Sweet Corn, bred by Alan Kapuler of Peace Seeds in Oregon. High genetic resilience and early production makes this sweet corn a hardy mainstay.

While fresh and sweet, it is mostly white with hues of rainbow colors. The flavor is starchy-sweet, not sugary-sweet like a classic bicolor sweet corn. As it dries, its beautiful rainbow of red, blue, yellow and orange hues comes out. Dried corn can be ground for cornmeal!

Planting Instructions: Plant Painted Hills Corn seeds 1-2" deep, 6" apart after frost has passed and soil has warmed to at least 65 degrees. Plant in blocks of at least 16 plants to ensure full pollination.

Seed Saving Instructions: Pick corn cobs when fingernail does not dent kernels, as leaves are browning. Shuck cobs (remove leaves) and allow kernels to dry fully on the cob. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.

Approximately 50 Painted Hills Corn seeds per packet
