Are you a mountain or short-season gardener? Alaska tomato is an heirloom determinate from Russia (Aljaska in Russian) adapted to cold weather and a short growing window. Abundant, round, bright red 1-3 inch cherry tomatoes grow on shorter bushes. You won't need tall cages or supports for this tomato. The taste is mild and sweet.

Planting Instructions: Start Alaska Tomato seeds indoors under grow lights or in a greenhouse 6-10 weeks before last frost. Transplant 2+ weeks after last frost when soil has warmed a bit. Space plants at least 4 feet apart. Support growth with tomato cages, a trellis or wire. Water regularly but avoid overwatering (soil should be moist but not wet).

Seed Saving Instructions: When fully ripe, pick your tastiest fruits from the most vigorous plants. Cut open and squeeze Alaska Tomato seeds and juice into a jar. Secure a cloth over the jar so air can enter. Ferment the juice and seeds in the jar for 2-3 days. Then strain and rinse the seeds. Dry on a screen or cloth. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.
