Ocimum tenuiflorum
Days to Maturity: 60 from transplant
Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil or Sacred Basil, is a highly medicinal herb with a potently delicious, earthy-floral fragrance. Tulsi is commonly dried for teas for relaxation, nervous system support and respiratory health. Pollinators love basil flowers!
Planting Instructions: Start Tulsi Basil seed in flats 6-8 weeks before last frost and transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed; or direct seed outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Sow 1/4" deep and keep seeds moist. Basil loves warmth and dies with frosts, so make sure to harvest all your remaining basil (or cover well) when the first fall frost arrives. To prolong your basil harvest, pinch off flowering tops.
Seed Saving Instructions: Allow select plants to bolt and go to seed. Collect Tulsi Basil seeds when dry and they easily crumble into your hand (or a bucket). Store in a cool, dark and dry place.
