Phaseolus vulgaris
Days to Maturity: 100
This big, solid white Southwest heirloom bean is also called White Bordal or White Aztec Runner bean. They are so easy and fun to plant and grow, and so tasty in soups with a filling, meaty flavor. Mortgage Lifters are vigorous, high-yielding, drought tolerant/low water needs beans. Perfect for the Southwest grower and beyond. Their runner vines will climb up to a few feet high so an optional trellis provides optimal support and keeps heavy bean pods off the ground. Similar to Scarlet Runner Beans, their flowers attract hummingbirds except flowers are white instead of scarlet in color!
Planting Instructions: Sow Mortgage Lifter bean seeds directly in the ground 1.5" deep, 4" apart in spring after all danger of frost has passed. Keep moist until germinated. Do not overwater.
Seed Saving Instructions: Allow Mortgage Lifter bean pods to fully dry on the vine. Pick entire pods, then shell. Store beans in a paper or mesh bag to ensure they dry fully and remain dry.
Approx 30 Mortgage Lifter Bean seeds per packet.
