Cucurbita pepo
Caserta is an award-winning, reliable, early-producing bush zucchini with prolific fruits for any garden. An Italian heirloom, its contrasting dark and light green stripes and smooth skin make it a delight to harvest. Enjoy its mild-tasting, firm flesh in many ways-- in omelets, casseroles, pasta sauces, stir-fries, baked into bread or pancakes, or dried for preserving. Great for raised beds and small garden spaces. All-America selections winner in 1949.
Planting Instructions: Sow Caserta Zucchini seeds directly in the ground after all danger of frost has passed & soil has warmed a bit. Plant 2-3" deep, 2 feet apart.
Seed Saving Instructions: Allow Caserta zucchinis to grow as large as possible and turn yellow. Harvest before frost. Cut open squash and lay seeds out to dry on a screen or cloth. You may rinse them in a strainer if needed. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.
