Papalote Ranch Cushaw Squash

$11.00

Cucurbita argyrosperma (previously Cucurbita mixta)

Days to Maturity: 140+ (long season)

Get ready for a TASTY cushaw!! Unlike most cushaw (mixta or argyrosperma species) squashes that are mild and lack flavor, Papalote Ranch Cushaw is delectable and super sweet.

Super thick skin makes it a good keeper. Flesh gets super soft and sweet with cooking. Prolific vines with abundant fruits. Cushaws are great for seed savers wanting to bulk up their squash harvest without crossing with pepos, maximas and moschatas.

We are thrilled to discover this squash originally from Mexico, grown out at Papalote Ranch in Arizona and passed to Native Seeds/SEARCH in Arizona. Grown by Groundwork in Paonia, CO.

Planting Instructions: Start Papalote Ranch Cushaw Squash seeds indoors 3 weeks before last frost and transplant after all danger of frost has passed. Or seed outdoors after frost if your growing season is at least 5 months long. Plant 2-3" deep in mounds of well-draining soil. Mounds should be at least 5 feet apart.

Seed Saving Instructions: Select as many of your tastiest, fully mature fruits as possible for seed saving. Cut open squash and lay seeds out to dry on a screen or cloth. You may rinse them in a strainer if needed. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.

Approximately 12 Papalote Ranch Cushaw Squash seeds per packet
