Solanum lycopersicum
Days to Maturity: 65 from transplant
This is a de-hybridization in process, sixth generation (F6). Sungolds are known by market gardeners all over for their bursting sweetness and pop-in-your-mouth size. Since Sungolds are hybrids, saving their seeds produces offspring with widely variable characteristics. These seeds are 6 generations in the direction of open-pollinated, having been selected each year for tastiness and vigor. F5 seeds obtained from Delectation of Tomatoes. Indeterminate.
Planting Instructions: Start seeds indoors under grow lights or in a greenhouse 6-10 weeks before last frost. Transplant 2+ weeks after last frost when soil has warmed a bit. Space plants at least 4 feet apart. Support growth with tomato cages, a trellis or wire. Water regularly but avoid overwatering (soil should be moist but not wet).
Seed Saving Instructions: When fully ripe, pick your tastiest fruits from the most vigorous plants. Cut open and squeeze seeds and juice into a jar. Secure a cloth over the jar so air can enter. Ferment the juice and seeds in the jar for 2-3 days. Then strain and rinse the seeds. Dry on a screen or cloth. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.
