Dolichos lablab purpureus
Days to Maturity: 90
Purple Hyacinth Bean (or Lablab bean) is a beautiful, vigorous, low-maintenance ornamental flowering vine. Magenta-purple blossoms similar to sweet peas add a bright pop to any garden, and even the bean pods and stems have lovely purple streaks. We love how hands-off these vines are-- just plug them into the ground in the spring where they can climb a tall trellis and enjoy their steady growth & ornamental value throughout the season.
Planting Instructions: Plant Hyacinth bean seeds directly in the ground in full sun, 1" deep, 6" apart in spring after all danger of frost has passed. Keep moist until germinated and keep their soil consistently moist (but not wet) throughout the season. Provide a tall trellis for these climbers.
Seed Saving Instructions: Allow Hyacinth bean seed pods to fully dry on the vine. Pick dried pods into a bin and crush to dislodge beans. Store beans in a paper or mesh bag to ensure they dry fully and remain dry.
Approx 30 Purple Hyacinth bean seeds per packet.
