Our Maxima Winter Squash Landrace Mix produces colorful, round, medium-sized winter squash with diverse coloration. They have hard ribbed shells so they keep well throughout the winter. This landrace includes maximas from a multigenerational farm in Pagosa Springs, CO, Hopi maxima squash, Hopi Pale Gray squash, Ayeyarwaddy Delta squash and Blue Hubbard squash. Enjoy delicious soups, stuffed squash, baked goods and other squash delicacies all winter long! Grows well in dry climates with low water inputs.
Planting Instructions: Start Maxima Squash seeds indoors 3 weeks before last frost and transplant after all danger of frost has passed. Or seed outdoors after frost if your growing season is at least 100 days long. Plant 2-3" deep in mounds of well-draining soil. Mounds should be at least 5 feet apart.
Seed Saving Instructions: Select as many of your tastiest, fully mature fruits as possible for seed saving. Cut open squash and lay seeds out to dry on a screen or cloth. You may rinse them in a strainer if needed. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.
